Uh, oh… I’ma try to break yall off with another little piece of Soul Food. Yesterday, I traveled over to my cousin’s place for Thanksgiving dinner. I met up with a lot of family and friends there. He lives with his wife and kids in a pretty nice neighborhood. You know what neighborhood I’m talking about… The one where the police respond to emergency calls in 2-3 mins. The neighborhood that has a Subway restaurant with no bullet proof windows… The neighborhood where it’s rare to see old cars… and when you do, they aren’t sitt’n on 20″ chrome rims… crazy, huh? Ya… it’s a classy place.
Anyway, after dinner, my cousin decided to break the garage door. I don’t know how he did it… I guess he’s just talented that way. So, we were out there for a couple painful hours trying to fix it. While we were out there, we overheard the people that live across the street arguing and slamming the doors. I even heard some crying. All of the sudden, the neighbor busted out the door, yelled curse words toward the still-open front door, jumped in his car and drove a way. As he drove off, he was still yelling… I didn’t catch exactly what he said, but it was about money.
After that whole thing went down, I started thinking about the people across the street and wondered, How bad do they really have it? They have a huge house in an upper-class area. In their driveway, I saw a Lexus IS 350 and a BMW X6. The car that he was yelling from and drove off in was a Bently Continental GT.
I guess sometimes we all have to take a step back and realize we have a lot to be thankful for. Being grateful to the Lord for whatever we have is a freeing feeling. How can we progress if we spend all our time clouding our minds with what we don’t have? We can get mad that we live in the ghetto, but at least we have a roof over our heads… and that roof is going to keep the kids dry so they can study hard and become doctors later.
As for that garage door… I’m thankful it broke. There were family and friends outside drinking cases of beer and trying to figure out how to fix it. We spent hours getting real drunk and real loud. We even tore up the leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner. That garage door is still broken, but we had a lot of fun, bruh.
I hope yall had a good Thanksgiving weekend. By the way, wanna hear some angels sing? Click play on the video up there. Those Barrett sisters really be gett’n it in! Anyway, be safe out there! one
